Tonight we saw Glenburn take on Civil Service at home in Division 2 of the Belfast and District Table Tennis League. The match ended with a score line of Glenburn (6) and Civil Service (4). The format for the match was a 4 Vs 3 player format.

Neil Magrath reporting on the match said “This was a great match where the youth of Glenburn were pitched against the experience of Civil Service, with youth edging the match 6-4 after another see-saw performance. Glenburn came out of the blocks very fast with Matthew and James winning to gain a 2-0 lead, only to be pegged back when both Lucys lost tight matches to Brian and Maurice, with LJ again just unable to close out sets losing one 15-17. Matthew and James restored a 2 point lead with convincing victories, only for Adrian and Brian to pull the match level with LJ losing another set 12-14 and LC almost turning her match around recovering from 8-2 down to level at 8-8 but it was not to be this time. Matthew and Maurice then played a crucial match going to the 5th, with Matthew continuing his fine form to give Glenburn a 5-4 lead. The match of the night however was the doubles with James and Lucy C, combining again after their victory last week, where once again youth overcame the experienced pairing of Adrian and Maurice recovering from losing the first set to win in the 4th set of a very entertaining and high quality match with great rallies.”

Holywood 7 – 3 Carnmoney

Belfast and District Table Tennis Division 4 – Holywood (7) – Carnmoney (3).

Tonight we saw Holywood take on Carnmoney at home in Division 4 of the Belfast and District Table Tennis League. The match ended with a score line of Holywood (7) and Carnmoney (3). The format for the match was a 3 Vs 3 player format. Paul Clarke reporting on the match said “A roller coast match where, in most matches, the player that won came from being a fair bit behind at some stage of the match. The opening match set the scene with Keith edging a close 5 setter with Ted. Then Ryan came from 2 sets down to beat Davy to equalise for Carnmoney. Paul and Keith then beat George and Ryan to open up a lead for Holywood but George narrowed the gap at the half way stage by beating Davy.
Paul then beat Ted, retrieving some crumbs of comfort for the thrashings Ted dished out to Paul more than 40 years ago in the old Lisburn league,
Keith beat George and Ted came from 2-1 down to beat Davy, a great comeback especially as he was 9-6 down in the 5th.
Carnmoney, now 5-3 down, could have got a draw but lost 7-3. Firstly Paul was comfortable v Ryan 11-3 7-1 but suddenly found himself 2-1 down in sets and 4-0 down in the 4th. Paul tightened up to make it 2-2 but then went 3-0 down in the 5th. However Houdini performed another escape by catching up again to take the set 11-8 and seal the win for Holywood, However there was still a league point at stake and it was another roller coaster in the doubles. Holywood did well to take the 5th 13-11 as they were 8-4 down.”.
